South African "Rare and Endangered" Species Eco Tour
(Quarterly 2007)
Program
Day One - Depart Atlanta (10:30 AM) via
South Africa Airlines (non stop) for
Cape Town, South Africa. Excellent “in flight” films and complimentary
beverage and food services. (14) hour flight).
Day Two - Arrive Cape Town, South Africa (7:20 AM). Night at the five
star, waterfront, Victorian Alfred Hotel. Evening open.
Day Three-Depart Cape Town - Port Elizabeth (1 hr flight]. Drive through
to Zungah ranch. Welcome BBQ (Braaiveis) dinner and an evening of game viewing.
Day four - Look at rare and endangered, plants (especially succulents,
birds
and animals in the region. Visit a black eagle nest site and look at bushman
(rock and cave) paintings. Lunch in the Veldt. Continue safari. Dinner followed
by a night search for the rare, black-footed, cat.
Day five - Look at the endangered cycads (prehistoric plants] of which
some are on the brink of extinction in the wild.
Day six - Go through to Port Elizabeth. Game viewing at Kragga Kamma and
some time for curio shopping.
Day Seven - Visit the habitat of the endangered, East Cape Oribi
(antelope) and watch Oribi in the wild. Lunch. Stay the night in typical South
African farm house at the Kap River Nature reserve (This is the last undisturbed
river system in South Africa).
Day Eight - Depart for historical Grahamstown area. Visit the Albany
Museum of Natural History (one of the finest in SA). Lunch. Afternoon game
viewing. Maybe, if time permits, we will take time to look at the rare and
endangered Sandeleia Bainsii (air breathing fish). Night in an original 1820
settler's frontier home hosted by Sally Moss.
Day Nine - Alicedale-Paterson are to view rare, blackstork nest sites and
and endangered martial eagle nest site. Dinner in the field. Overnight in the
bush!
Day Ten - Day at Addo Elephant park, looking at elephant and black rhino.
Lunch. Overnight at Jeffery's bay guest house located scenically the beach.
Day Eleven - Visit the endangered Black Oyster Catcher's coastal habitat.
Also visit ancient archeological sites along coast. Lunch. Visit a Crowned eagle
nest site.
Dinner. Night search for the endangered Smith's Dwarf Chameleon.
Day Twelve - Tour through Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area (one of the
largest and most remote in SA). Dinner.
Day Thirteen - Depart for Cape Town. Check into Victoria Alfred Hotel.
Day Fourteen - Depart Cape Town for USA. End of services!
These tours will be used to monitor the rare populations and all information
gathered will be passed on to the relevant authorities.
All inclusive cost from Cape Town, South Africa (except for hard liquor at
meals) $5998.00
